The original house. Before we moved in, the same family had lived here continuously since it it was built in 1941. We felt a responsibility to bring it up to date while preserving its best features. It also mattered to us that the carbon footprint of a renovated house is about 10x lower than knocking down and rebuilding, as many developers have done in our neighborhood. That's why we decided to work exclusively with the existing structures.
