Sergio Rodrigues@sergio_rodrigues
Much as Oscar Niemeyer is assuredly the face of Brazilian modern architecture, Sergio Rodrigues (1927- ) could very well be the face of its mid-century furniture design. Enthralled with materials natural to his homeland--local woods like jacaranda and eucalyptus, and leather--Rodrigues' Oca Industries in Rio de Janeiro came to be a vital maker of mid-century Brazilian furniture. His Mole Chair is the classic and sits in any number of museum collections. He also worked as an architect, designing buildings such as the Brazilian Embassy in Rome, and both the Universidade de Brasilia and the Palacio des Arcos in Brasilia.
