  • Benjamin Farrell
    @farrellarchitecture
    Ben Farrell, owner and principal architect, is a graduate of Syracuse University but attributes most of his formative experiences to time spent in Florence, Italy and Copenhagen, Denmark. His curiosity with architecture came at a young age in Copenhagen by spray painting graffiti on the drab and boring ends of buildings that seemed otherwise forgotten. He legitimized this passion for unauthorized aesthetic improvement with an architectural education, some of which was spent studying the classics in the architecturally fecund areas of Tuscany. These contrasting experiences spawned an equally contentious philosophy that continues to juxtapose the respect of classical order with a modernity that says "nothing is sacred", improvement happens everywhere and sometimes the rules are just wrong. He resides in Southern Marin with a studio in Sausalito.

  • Benjamin Laramie
    @benjamin_laramie
    The last time San Francisco–based industrial designer Benjamin Laramie made any sort of flower out of paper was in elementary school. For the April 2010 issue's “Dwell Reports”, however, Laramie was asked to fill nine planters with botanicals made entirely of paper. After studying a vintage illustrated encyclopedia of houseplants, he abstracted and handcrafted over 20 varieties of flora made up of hundreds of individual pieces, no two being exactly alike.

  • Benjamin Graindorge
    @benjamingraindorge
    Parisian designer Benjamin Graindorge is self-deprecating but completely content in his chosen métier, professing that “learning is freedom.” His enlightened state derives from time spent in Patagonia as a student—a period when he considered dropping out of design school—and a later sabbatical in Japan. Before his travels, Graindorge admits he was more interested in the image of an object than its relationship to its user. Following his worldly design education, as well as a yearlong stint with renowned furniture designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, his work has taken on a new dimension. It’s still ethereal—spy his ceramic vases and lamps for Moustache, which ripple and bubble across an otherwise smooth surface, or his limited-edition art pieces for gallery Ymer & Malta—but it is ultimately grounded in a humanistic expression of scale and tactility. “For me,” Graindorge says, “the perfect assemblage is the human body.”
