The design solution we arrived at centered on placing three doors in the apartment that could slide open and closed. We wanted the doors to have a distinct presence in the apartment and to be fabricated using sustainable materials. During the early stages of demolition, as we took down the existing plaster wall finish, we uncovered wooden lathe slats. The slats became a crucial design element in bringing forth the qualities that we were looking for, and in allowing each door to respond to its particular role in the space.
