Frank Lloyd Wright believed the home to be an opportunity of one's individual expression. To this end, he worked tirelessly to democratize the design of both homes and furniture and in the early 1900s focused on creating a series of standardized, affordable housing units known as the American System-Built Homes. To reduce both waste and labor costs, these homes were pre-cut and shipped directly to their jobsite for assembly... sound familiar? Named after the neighborhood where many of these homes still remain as part of the National Register of Historic Places, the Burnham Stool is inspired both by the project's philosophy and key design elements.
