Herman Miller Saiba Dining Chair
Naoto Fukasawa graduated from Tama Art University in 1980, after which he began his career with Seiko Epson, where he specialized in creating microelectronics. In 1989, Fukasawa joined San Francisco-based ID Two, predecessor of IDEO, where he continued his work on products related to electronics and computers. He returned to Japan in 1996 to lead Tokyo’s IDEO office, and during his stint there, he also held a series of workshops for young designers that espoused the virtues of simple design and the way it seamlessly intertwines itself with the environments in which it’s found and the people who interact with it. Fukasawa now runs his own studio in Tokyo, working with renowned brands and companies around the world. His Saiba Chair (2016) is right at home wherever elegant seating is needed, sporting gentle curves and fine tailoring. It pairs a meticulously upholstered bucket seat with striking wood legs, reading as a warm, familiar form. Made in U.S.A.
