"I made all three of the artworks Absolut Art is offering after doing a residency with The Jaunt, in Copenhagen, which funds artists’ travel," says the artist. "I went to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, a seaside amusement town. As far as the color schemes and the motifs, a lot of the imagery in the work comes from bits of signage and color themes from the rides and the prizes.

"I like to achieve some ambiguity with the forms in my paintings, which can be abstract or can represent something, and often the viewer isn’t quite sure what. Maybe the red in Air Waves is a beach shower, and the orange balls are cribbed from shapes of the rides. Then of course there’s an umbrella or beach ball pattern.

"The title has a bit of a double meaning; it could refer to radio airwaves, or air and waves, two things that you experience at a spot like Old Orchard Beach."
