A sophisticated plan for a 1,000-square-foot yard, designed by dlandstudio, includes a lilac hedge around the perimeter, espaliered fruit trees next to the fireplace, and a folly made from an existing structure that blocks north winds and shelters a pool.

The Phoenix is what owner and architect Eric Logan describes as a cool little folly in the woods.

The first of three was built for noted choreographer, and Thibault’s close friend, Jean-Pierre Perreault, and was based on a set design Thibault made for one of Perreault’s dance performances.

The home’s enclosed courtyard sits at “the heart of the structure,” says Baumann, who resides with his wife, Lisa Sardinas, and eight-year-old son, Oskar. “This is clearly the dominant space; everything flexes towards it.” Baumann cast the square concrete floor tiles himself, enlisting the help of his son. A small, neat patch of grass—a playful nod to the archetypal domestic lawn—is edited down to a charming folly.

The 510 Cabin is one of Leggitt's designs, executed with the help of student apprentices.

On the north section of the plot is a towering structure that looks like a sundial needle. This third structure, which Allfrey named "The Folly," was constructed with unfinished cedar, a wonderful contrast to the dark-stained cedar of the two other buildings.

Reel Simple For a simple, low-cost bedside reading light with a dash of industrial style, Bernier ran a standard-issue cord set through a vintage clothesline pulley, which he picked up at a flea market, on Thibault’s side of the bed. “If she ever wants it to be higher, she can easily adjust it,” he says.

Belvedere Castle, a folly in New York City’s Central Park, was designed by British architects Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould in 1867.

The 16th-century Sacro Bosco (“Sacred Grove”), also called the Park of the Monsters, is a wooded area in Bomarzo, Italy, with stone follies depicting mythological creatures and giants.

The Phoenix is what owner and architect Eric Logan describes as a cool little folly in the woods. "The whole folly experience is the thing," he says. "It's why I like living in the west."

On the top floor, a new addition provides office space for Bernier and Thibault, where a V-shaped ceiling maximizes headroom within local building-height restrictions.

We added planters that match to the deck follies.

We liked the folly elements and decided we wanted see how they looked on the walls.

The downstairs bar displays the owners' sense of fun and folly complete with a disco ball overhead (not visible in the photo but trust us...it's there!).

Slide, bench and rock follies. The space lets you rest or play. We included planter elements to soften and liven up the yard.

We added deck follies as obstacle courses, activity benches, or garden benches depending on what the need. Walls for the trash enclosure started getting clad.

Bent rosewood pieces, layered and finished with a mahogany veneer, lend this piece a warm richness that hasn't faded a bit since it was constructed in the 1960s. For more information, contact Assemblage.
