The Kryss Chair was designed for the Swedish Embassy in 1975 and features a foldable teak frame and a fabric seat and back. The inspiration for the chair is from the discovery of folding chairs in King Tut’s ancient tomb. It can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings.

A new 2015 addition to Yield Design Co.’s fleet of products, the Field Bag is a versatile tote that can be used for a variety of occasions. It can be used for taking lunch to work, packing a picnic, shopping, or even as a shopping tote. The Field Bag includes two side pockets that are roomy enough to fit a wine bottle in each pocket. The bag is comprised of water-resistant duck canvas, and includes copper rivets and vegetable-tanned leather handles. Each element in the Field Bag is made of materials made in the United States, and is assembled in Yield Design Co.’s St. Augustine, Florida studio.

Gant says that the design for their clever Canvas Picnic Bag began shortly after a six-month stay in Stockholm. “Although I loved the experience there, the winter left me especially appreciative of spending as much time in the sun and parks of San Francisco as I could.” The design is a blanket that folds into a bag, making it easy to transport. It “was inspired by the desire to take a break in the park on a whim, so your bag could always provide that dry spot and carry snacks from the market.” As for Gant and Deming, she says “it’s a common ‘problem’ for us to find ourselves with a sudden urge to take lunch in a park or on a weekend hike, so we’ve found ourselves using the bags often.”

With exposed industrial materials for finishes, the interior includes hand-troweled, waxed concrete floors, Douglas fir beams, and sealed-plywood ceilings.

The design for MATCH uses unorthodox elements like Muller Van Severen’s signature material, a durable and wax-like polyethylene traditionally used in cutting boards.

In the Yabu and Pushelberg-designed bedrooms, rolls of wax-dipped canvas replace traditional headboards, and a muted color palette creates a cozy, nostalgic retreat. “There's a sort of Father Knows Best honesty to the rooms, a sweetness that makes you think of childhood, and of comfort,” says Glenn Pushelberg. Smart, space-saving solutions include under-bed storage and a peg wall on which hangs a writing desk and a fold-up chair.

The dining table was made from reclaimed pine that Julie refinished with layers of stain and wax. Julie also made the lamps, using Knoll textiles.
