"It’s hard to find a nice ice bucket—they tend to always be metal and shiny, or super expensive crystal," Stubbs says. "I love the idea of making it out of resin. Ice is really heavy already, and why not use something a little bit lighter than metal or glass?"

Downing a beverage from a cup made of solid ice just seems somehow godlike. It’s as if you’re attending Odin’s birthday bash and the winds of the frozen North have supplied the drinkware. Unfortunately, unless you’re enjoying your drink someplace with an ambient temperature of less than 32°f, you’re going to be holding less and less of a mug as the party goes on. Still, it might be worth it.

"The story about french presses always breaking and then you're without a coffee maker, is something that we'd really like to express to people," says Kappa. "We really think this product, despite it's initial cost, solves a problem and saves people money in the long run." He and Story expect the press to cost $119.

We debuted this story on Coolhaus, [note the pun] an LA based company founded by two architects that makes high concept ice cream sandwiches named after modern design icons, back in April of 2009 and apparently it was hot hot hot then too. I'll bet we beat the record this year.
