NArchitekTURA chose a monochromatic white interior for its "Apartment of the Future—R&D Laboratory" in Dobrodzień, Poland, taking a cue from the design of contemporary cellphones and other mobile devices.

Made in the Future New manufacturing ecologies and the increased ability to make goods ourselves could lead to exceptional customization and new ideas, according to an new IDEO report.

NArchitekTURA designed the apartment so it could also serve as a showroom, hotel room, or art gallery.

A defining feature is the "green wall," a nearly 50-foot expanse of sliding panels that, when closed, presents a panoramic image of a natural landscape.

The apartment is outfitted with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems that can be controlled with a mobile application.

The panels slide from side to side, allowing the user to re-scale and reconfigure the space. Shifting the semi-transluscent panels also results in the creation of a number of "vivid, multi-dimensional collages," Haduch says.

"Part of that approach was to come up with a series of design possibilities for retrofits so that existing buildings could begin to operate in a passive solar capacity."

BALLOONA SIDE TABLE Originally designed for Umbra, Canadian designer Natalie Kruch's Balloona stool is a slap-happy choice for an affordable side table. For a 3D Jackson Pollock effect, 500 deflated balloons are stretched across the table's square frame.

The lower level of Ando's two-story structure is sunken below the ground. From the inside, the top of the concrete wall that surrounds the courtyard lines up so that it appears as if the cars driving on the road next to the building are driving on top of the concrete wall instead.
