The client behind this glass-and-concrete dwelling selected the site for its unadulterated primeval landscape: it's located on a remote Nova Scotia penninsula and accessible only by ferry. Gorlin's choice of concrete was aesthetic and practical: the rugged material echoes the granite landsacpe while resisting winds and weather.

Starphire glass lets the sun illuminate the house, which is composed of a series of interconnected two story pavilions. Each pavilion houses a different function—such as the living room here—and has its own unique orientation towards the landscape. Local designer Ray Frizzell selected furniture primarily a neutral palette to reflect the rocky landscape.

We used neutral grey paint on the walls, bold chevron curtains, and bespoke whitewash wood floors. The orange and bronze accents throughout were brought in in order to contrast against the black, white and grey main elements of the space. Two modern end tables on either side of the sofa with Zebra wood tops, also offer a touch of warmth and contrast.
