Skyline Park in Denver, Colorado, stretches over three city blocks. Halprin derived the sunken form from an eroded riverbed. Completed in 1974, the park also served as a stormwater retention site.

A master of appealing to a variety of stakeholders in a project, from city government to citizens, landscape architect Lawrence Halprin frequently used illustrations to convey complex ideas.

His design for Lovejoy Fountain, in Portland, features concrete slabs that echo the forms of the surrounding Cascades. Like the Portland Open Space Sequence as a whole, it coaxed nature into the city.

The holistic LIVE IN also incorporates space for practical necessities, like sleep.

Intimate nooks, set amid curvaceous shapes, diffused lighting, and colorful accents, provide a place for rest and recreation. The various levels, including the netting above, playfully engage the space.

The exhibition graphics employ a customized headline typeface developed by Project Projects. The painted floor graphic shows the shape of Roosevelt Island (in orange) and the extent of the pneumatic tube system (in white).

A demonstration pneumatic tube system ran throughout the exhibition, so visitors could better understand the technology.

The firm's work also includes exhibition and logo design. They handled both for the exhibition 'Fast Trash,' which spotlights the pneumatic trash disposal system used on Roosevelt Island since 1975.

Another selling point of the connectivity is that brushing data can be sent to dentists. Will you actually do that? Probably not, but if you’re serious about establishing better habits, accountability is a solid motivator.

Rather than having to bring your phone in the bathroom for every brushing, the toothbrush itself stores up to 20 sessions to sync when it next connects.

The brushes works like regular electric toothbrushes, but they have embedded sensors that record your frequency of use, and even how hard you’re pressing against your gums.

Using the app, you can customize your cleaning cycle. Set the time per cleaning and intensity accordingly, which can be helpful if you find other electric toothbrushes’ intensity to be too much.

The butterfly-roof pavilion by architects Kate Simonen, Benjamin Parco, and Phil Kaefer connects to the low-slung home Joseph Esherick designed in 1954 via two covered walkways and an open-air tearoom. All three structures sit lightly on the landscape designed by Lawrence Halprin and updated over 50 years later by Gary Roth, a former employee.
