KIKI SOFA - 2 SEATER Elegant and timeless, the Kiki collection of furniture was created by legendary Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1960. For the Kiki Sofa, Tapiovaara envisioned a clean, minimal sofa that could be integrated into any existing environment. Plush yet refined, the Kiki Sofa is crafted with lacquered steel tubing and features a fabric upholstered soft foam cushion.

The original home was preserved and renovated. In the front bedroom, a small window was replaced with a large painted-steel window seat, a favorite of the residents' grandchildren.

The Kiki two-seater sofa by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Artek will be featured in Austere's lounge space at Dwell on Design NY. The sofa, designed by a Finnish design great and manufactured by one of Finland's foremost furniture manufacturers, is covered in Hallingdal fabric made in Denmark.

Launched in 2013, each Woodgate Sofa is made with an FSC-approved beech wood frame, jute, and elasticated webbing that is covered with a mix of renewable materials including natural fibers, animal hair, and wool.

Inspired by skateboards, the swing seats are made of European oak. “At first we tried bigger boards, but you can’t sit on them,” Parzyszek says.

Looking downwards from the second floor, the void creates an invisible barrier between the family room and the living area. The reflection from the skylight exaggerates the idea of an even more depth within the house.

Two pieces from E15’s Shiraz sofa flank the company’s wooden Leila side tables. Citterio has designed scads of sofas at this point, not only for B&B Italia but for storied brands like Vitra and Flexform as well. Though he was already decades into a glittering career of sofa design, Citterio confirmed his mastery of the form with the Charles’s slim, strong frame, long seat cushion, aluminum corner supports, and suite of free pillows. Behind the resin screen is the property’s centerpiece: an entry garden that Trainor recast as an outdoor living room. Sparta stacking chairs, a deep-wicker Baia sofa, and matching Baia armchairs, all by Mamagreen, are arranged around a custom concrete fire pit. Orange kangaroo paws lean in from the sides, creating a sense of privacy without sacrificing views. It’s a welcoming space that serves as a casual gathering spot when the weather cooperates.

"Shane enjoys both cooking and entertaining so we maximized the counter space to make meal prep and hosting easy," Priftaj says. "It was also very important that the kitchen include a gas grill so he could quickly and conveniently grill without having to climb up five flights of stairs to use the bbq on the patio." Priftaj selected high-gloss acrylic white cabinets from bulthaup's b3 line with an aluminum backsplash and b3 prism drawer system to keep things tidy. A Wolf hood and gas cooktop with chargrill give Carslake the flexibility he desired for indoor grilling. The counters are polished white quartz.

Open shelving between the living room and dining area maximizes light and air flow and showcases eclectic objects, which include old printing blocks found at a garage sale and bowls homeowner Kathryn Tyler’s mother bought in South Africa. For Tyler, storage is critical. "It's something that always gets overlooked but it's actually the most important thing. I calculated the linear footage of the books I own to make sure everything would fit."
