"Use parks to create places people want to hang out in and manage stormwater at the same time," says Inga Saffron, the Pulitzer-prize wining architecture critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer. "The city is under federal mandate to reduce its overflows into rivers when it rains heavily. Moreover, Philadelphia has a real shortage of green space. Rubén Núñez's glass vase from 1958 features a soft rainbow of colors that wouldn't be out of place with today's iridescent designs.

Foreign designers were also featured prominently at DesignMarch. Finnish ceramics brand Maari showcased vases made from the raku pottery firing technique, which creates unique patterns. The Koivu vase, which is 26 cm tall, resembles birch wood. The brand also offers decorative raku eggs and bark tiles.

Pictured is one of Stout’s three-dimensional braided rugs and a pinched clay hanging light made with Sean Gerstley. Stout has also created a number of digitally printed curtains in collaboration with Kate Fox. “I want my work to make people happy,” she says.

"We don't have any specific rituals for entertaining, it changes each time depending on the party and the people. Music's always very important as a way to get people to relax and be in the moment. Of course there's always a good glass of wine, great food and flowers, and a few pieces of Dinosaur Designs to add color to the table,” says Ormandy.

Ming Vase by Marcel Wanders for Moooi, $141 at stardust.com Dutch designer Marcel Wanders modeled his white porcelain Ming Vase on a 3,100-year-old Chinese vase found in a shipwreck at the bottom of the sea.

Iittala Ruutu Vase, from $95 Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, each vase takes 24 hours to make by skilled craftsmen.

Muuto will display its Balance vases, a clever set that uses magnets to enable gravity-defying angles.

KleinReid’s Hawthorne Collection is crafted from handmade porcelain. Each piece is designed with classic curves, creating bold shapes. The Hawthorne Laburnum Vase is finished with KleinReid’s specially developed glaze that is hand-dipped on each piece prior to kiln firing. Once in the kiln, the glaze slowly runs over the porcelain before finally collecting in random drips at the base. The result is an imperfect edge with a three-dimensional quality that resembles cooled candlewax.

Hend Krichen is the producer of these vases and containers, made of Tunisian ceramic with copper details.

Tangent Vase by High Gloss, $90 Handmade to order in Brooklyn, this asymmetrical vase features a raw speckle and a luscious, almond-dipped glaze.

Nendo’s Small Black Vase is a collection of sculptural metal frames with a strong graphic look that combined with a glass turns into a vase. Produced by David Design.

Designed in 1936, the Lyngby Vase is one of the most emblematic pieces of Danish porcelain. The vase is so popular that very few original productions remain for sale—most are treasured heirlooms that are passed from generation to generation. The new production maintains the popularity of the original design, largely due to the care and thoughtful attention to the original model in the reproduction. When it premiered in the thirties, the Lyngby Vase was so different from classic porcelain, that it truly stood out and redefined the possibilities of the material. With its distinct shape and modern look, the vase was a sophisticated, new departure from tradition. The vase was reissued in 2011 as an extension of the Lyngby legacy.

Mahdavi's glazed ceramic Landscape vases were cooked three to four times to get the right colors.

Umbra Shift’s Pleated series was designed by MSDS as a way to accompany a plant through different growth stages.
