These tiles were originally designed by Gio Ponti in the early 1960s for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento, Italy. They were just put back into production by Ceramica Francesco de Maio. Sure, you can show them off in the kitchen or bathroom, but a bit of Mediterranean breeziness makes laundry a little more chill.

Ceramic Tiles by Gio Ponti

Italy, 1961

"In planning the pair of Parco dei Principi hotels (one in Rome, the other in Sorrento), Gio Ponti designed several different patterns for use on ceramic floor tiles. These tiles were manufactured by D'Agostino (Salerno) in two different colors. The Rome hotel, situated near the Villa Borghese park, used tiles that were glazed green; the Sorrento hotel's tiles are blue, as the hotel overlooks the Mediterranean."

In the living room, a vintage Paul McCobb sofa, a Gio Ponti side table, and an Eames lounge echo the home’s midcentury architecture—as does the thrifted red Florence Knoll Parallel Bar sofa that lends the room a shot of color.

Outdoor furniture is everywhere these days. We liked the Ilan Dei chairs in terms of shape, color, and the fact that it's made from a single piece of vinyl cord.

Lino Sabattini Coffee and Tea Service

In the 1950s, Gio Ponti championed the designs of Lino Sabattini, a self-taught designer of cutlery and tableware, born in Italy in 1925. After Ponti placed his designs in the magazine Domus in 1956, Sabattini joined Christofle as design director, a post he held until 1963, in which he produced abstract modern metalware. He remained prolific through the 1990s, when he created the four-piece Fenice coffee and tea service consisting of a silver-plated coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl, and creamer in a form that still hints of the atomic era. $19,500 from

After first attempting to display this 1950 Gio Ponti silver service for eight on his booth’s dining table and finding that it didn’t truly showcase the unique forms, Sam Kaufman decided to nail it to the wall to attract more attention. “It’s pure Ponti,” he says.
