On a wooded plot in Arkansas, the architecture firm Silo AR+D erected a radiant live-work home that announces its nocturnal presence by projecting colored light from concealed LED fixtures. The home's tone can be manipulated and controlled via smartphone.

Three generations, each with its own tastes and schedules, needed to share one address. To make this possible, designer Deana Lewis of DOODL created three floors with distinct adult- and kid-friendly spaces that would be flexible over time. Broom-finished concrete on the walkway and steps lead up to a front door painted Benjamin Moore’s Electric Orange—a color inspired by a wine bottle’s label.

Intending to take light to an elemental place, the Aura Light from Ladies & Gentlemen Studio features two simple, primary elements: the light source—the bulb—and the illumination, which is highlighted by a brass ring. The result is a simple but sophisticated fixture that can be used as a singular suspended piece, or can be grouped with other Aura Lights for a more dramatic, installation-like effect.

The Contour Key Rings calls to the look of retro, oversized key rings, with a modern slant. Crafted from 10-gauge brass wire, the rings close and secure with a simple screw clasp. The Contour Key Rings will make an excellent stocking stuffer this year.

Envisioned as a live-work home, the architects allocated the groundfloor for work functions and placed most living spaces upstairs.

Plant Ring, $48.

While often used for cheese trays, Aparentment’s Marbleous Fruit Ring offers a new way of serving fruit.

The glowing home defines its environment as much as it responds to it. Its T-shape reduces the size of its footprint, thus sparing two timeworn trees and minimizing foundation costs - a real concern when building on Arkansas's notoriously unstable soil.

Pencil Sharpener Ring by Monika Wyndham “MWRing” $225.00 for one "Over the summer I met Monika for the first time at a coffee shop in Brooklyn. Among other things, I asked her to be in a show we were curating at the time for SoHO's Partners & Spade. She said sure, and that she wanted to do a ring. She had not only never cast anything before, but she also had just two months to whip something up. What a champ. When I finally saw the finished ring, I was floored that she was able to develop such a perfect piece in so little time. These rings are fully functional, shiny silver and real heavy. Monika is the type of artist that will be making very strong work for a very long time. If you do purchase this ring, consider it an investment. I have no doubt that its value will increase once the world takes notice of the killer stuff that pops out of this woman's head."

1911 - Miele introduces the first washing machine with its own electric motor.

We created a platform at the entry of the bedroom so you could walk into the room at the same level as the rest of the house. Creating this platform allowed easy access to the new home office location and master bathroom. Prior to the remodel you had to walk down the stairs into the bedroom and up more stairs to get into the bathroom. This area is accented by a gorgeous floating pecan desk, open shelving that acts as a decorative railing, and an original brick wall that we discovered during construction.

Walking down the stairs will lead you to the master bedroom which features floor to ceiling custom cabinets at the bed wall, deep drawers below the platform wall, and custom closet with sliding doors. Access to all of the cabinets was a must, even at the tippy top, so we designed a library ladder that could be used on the closet or bed side, with a central resting place between the windows when not in use. The overall aesthetic is warm, clean and minimal, with white cabinets, stained European white oak floors, and matte black hardware. An accent wall of Cavern Home wallpaper adds interest and ties the finishes of the room together.

Dawson shifted some production to readymade, and now the factory builds the raw bodies of more than 30 popular models in advance.

Hand-assembled in Schoolhouse Electric's Portland factory, this 17.5-inch wall clock is constructed with a spun steel case, domed glass lens, and steel dial.

A woven Appalachian white ash basket is the ideal catchall for magazines, throw blankets, toys, and fire logs.

“Knowing that the kitchen would be where the family would spend most of their time, it was designed to have a variety of seating and really good views to the beautiful forest and field outside,” says Lewis. IKEA bar stools line up against white quartz countertops, and lighting by Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. shines overhead.
