The Vitra Miniature Collection presents important modern furniture classics in a smaller size. Although more petite than the full-size originals, each part of the Vitra Minature series is an exact 1:6 replica of the historical design, including the construction, materials, and colors. The Tulip Chair is an exact miniature of Eero Saarinen’s original design, which won the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1969, among others.

The complete Vitra Miniature Collection is currently on sale for 15% off at the Dwell Store until 10/26/2014.

Visitors pass by a sentry wall of lamps from Design House Stockholm on their way to the airy living-dining room with its 52 windows.
The house is filled with pieces from Small-Design, the children’s furniture company cofounded by Charrier, including the transformable Cube, which does double duty as a chair or table in the top floor kitchen-dining area.
In a renovated Tribeca loft, Eames shell chairs surround a Saarinen Tulip table from Knoll. The Line console is from Design Within Reach and the pendant light is Louis Poulsen's Snowball. While architect Matthew Miller of New York firm StudioLAB gutted the space, some of the original details—like the windows—remain. The rug is from ABC Home.
Though Saarinen completed the design in 1956, the patent drawing for the Tulip Chair was filed on June 7, 1960.
Saarinen at work on the Pedestal model. He started with hundreds of drawings, and moved on to ¼ scale models, which were then set up in a room the size of a dollhouse.
He designed the retro-modern chairs, too.

“We’ve worked with Evan Bare from 608 for a number of years. Great examples of clean design and structure.” -- Julie Nicholson

“It sort of shows this ‘Canadiana’ style, but it’s more an example of someone working in a forward-thinking way that’s almost Scandinavian. There’s lots of thoughtfulness in that piece.” -- Shaun Moore
