Iceland prefab pioneers Tryggvi Thorsteinsson and Erla Dögg Ingjaldsdóttir of Minarc built this Culver City family home with mnmMOD – a customizable, locally manufactured building system of prefabricated panels the duo designed, which minimizes energy consumption and reduces a home’s carbon footprint. Made with a blend of 30 percent recycled steel and cradle-to-cradle certified extruded polystyrene, mnmMOD components can be assembled with just a screw gun.

Keeping the spacing of the rope consistent is quite a challenge.

Dubbed Space 10, it's located in Copenhagen's up-and-coming meatpacking district. Space 10 isn't actually a part of IKEA, rather, it's an independent institution that IKEA is supporting. “We feel a real connection to the bigger purpose of Space10," says Göran Nilsson, IKEA Concept Innovation Manager. "IKEA already does a lot to improve the lives of the many people, and with Space10 we hope to take this vision even further. Whether or not the solutions are immediately relevant to our current business is not important. What matters is to look into new directions and be ready to make changes.”

Its inaugural exhibtion, “Fresh living Lab,” showcases six products from young designers that highlight how our everyday activities can impact—for better or worse—the environemnt. This includes, according to Space 10, "a table that charges your phones by turning heat into electricity, to a chair that rewards you for exercising, or an art piece that reveals itself when your energy consumption decreases."

The space is also filled with plants that will freshen and recycle the air. All in all, Space 10's design and furnishings create a fun and loose environment that can take whatever's thrown it way. "It supplies this feeling [of being] a playground," says Nikoline Dyrup Carlsen, Architect MAA and founding partner of Spacon & X. While Space 10 is open to the public today, those not in Copenhagen can tour the hub in this video.
