This piece of ephemera started it all: Bubeshko's first check to Schindler, which kicked off the design process.

MH01’s angled roof, black shingles, and Superboard panels bring a modern sensibility to a traditional cottage form.

Arne Jacobsen designed nearly every element in the hotel, including the built-ins, textiles, and accessories. In addition to furnishing the rooms with existing pieces from his portfolio, Jacobsen created new items for the hotel, like the Drop chair shown in this archival photo.

Loreto Archives Centre (Gray Puksand: Ballarat, Australia) A turn-of-the-century schoolhouse isn’t a surprising choice for a small archive. But the striking design of this historical site, which framed the original structure in glass and exposed original joints and materials, gives the documents and ephemera a more dramatic home.

Resonant Surface 01 by Christine Yogiaman and Ken Tracy Seven horns crafted from wood veneer, each measuring 10 feet long, have been coiled and shaped together to help amplify a person’s voice, separated by 6-millimeter thick aluminum frames. The shape, initially a geodesic dome in the Buckminster Fuller mold, was reshaped into a bent octagon to accommodate the horns. The installation works as a resonating engine just like a trumpet horn, and distributes the sound so well, it’s actually hard to hear yourself when you’re standing behind it. Photo by Juan Roldan

Bright, light-filled rooms around the edge of the building offer comfortable spaces to view artifacts.

The plan brought back the central fountain, updated mechanical systems, improved circulation, and fixed wear and tear, among other things.

Mellon Square in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, underwent a $10-million restoration in 2014. Since opening in 1955, the park has remained a beloved part of the urban fabric.
