The homeowners needed a kitchen that could hold the 20 or so friends and family members they usually host on holidays and reunions. The kitchen island—which features a countertop of recycled paper and cement from Squak Mountain Stone—can easily accommodate plenty of Tolix aluminum bar stools. Custom Douglas fir cabinetry frames a Miele dishwasher, Sub Zero refrigerator, Blanco sink, and a Wolf oven with a Vent-A-Hood overhead.

Archifold Architectural Origami Set, $15 at the Dwell Store Archifold is a series of sheets of origami paper that are set in a modern black and white palette. Each patterned sheet is based on the framework used by architects to create plans. The set includes a diagram for structuring the paper into a small house, but the Archifold set can be made into many other designs.

We have a soft spot for quirky sureal design objects, especially ones that pay homage to great Fluxist artists, and these guys nail down that aesthetic. This fully-functioning alarm clock is made from collected paper and is complete with labeled buttons and knitted cord. This product comes with a return envelope so that once the owner has finished using the clock, he or she can return it to be recycled and refurbished for a new owner’s use."

The inverted trusses subtly establish distinct spaces in the great room, with the bottom edges lending an intimate feel to the living area. A simple rice-paper lamp shade hangs above a kauri wood tabletop that the couple borrowed from Stock’s aunt and uncle and set on a set of Taurus legs from Nils Holger Moormann. Quazi Design uses discarded magazines as its base material. All products are handmade by local Swazi women using fiberglass molds, and can be dyed in various shades.

The Plicate Analog Watch from Nava Design is an inspired wristwatch, modeled after the pleats found in folder paper fans. A monochrome design, the watch strap is modeled after the watch case not only in color, but also in the pleated design. This thoughtful detail in the watch strap allows air to flow between the band and the arm of the wearer, which keeps the watch comfortable and prevents dirt from building up.

Paper maiche plant by CHIAOZZA "They’ve gotten kind of famous in the past couple years because they make these adorable triangle mirrors that are really hip," says Singer. "They also make these paper maiche plants which range from crazy simple to crazy, elaborate."

Poketo’s Stick-Up Weekly Calendar is both a sticky pad and calendar, in one slim pad. The pad includes seven sections, each for a day of the week and each section includes lines for writing as well as small boxes for checking off completed tasks.

A bedroom next to the living area has an overhead lantern Max made by wrapping string soaked in glue, water, and corn starch around an inflated balloon, deflating it, and then lining it with rice paper-mache.

These 16-square-meter structures elegantly proved Ban’s cardboard concept; tubing could be used as load-bearing structures, and could be made both waterproof and flame-resistant. Beer crates were used for support. Ban supposedly picked Kirin because the label colors were a better match. This design has since been used for disaster relief in India and Turkey.

Pia Wüstenberg, a German-Finnish designer based in London, created the Stacked Vessels we featured in the magazine, each made from ceramic, glass, and wood. Another project of hers we love is Processed Paper—a series of pendant lamps, table bases, and other pieces crafted from rolled wastepaper that she turns on a woodworker's lathe to create distinctive, marbleized pieces.

This set of three pens from Korean design brand CLIP PEN has an innovative detail—the pens can be clipped onto a section of papers or a folder, or even used as a bookmark. The pen made its design debut at London Design Week 2014.
