The studio’s artist wanted a workspace that would be a blank canvas. Accordingly, sustainably sourced birch plywood was seamlessly used throughout the interior space. When it becomes weathered, damaged, or covered in paint, it can be easily removed and replaced.

The client, a life-long practitioner of yoga, was tired of the drab, enclosed yoga studios he usually used. Instead, he desired a beautiful space that connected to the outdoors. Thanks to its views and simple interior finish, the client described it as supremely tranquil and a warm ‘womb-like’ environment.

The Falmouth Townhouse is a ten-bedroom boutique hotel. Working with a shoestring budget, Tyler furnished the entire property with refurbished mid-century vintage purchases from eBay and second-hand dealers, and commissioned decorative origami process pieces for the walls. Photo by Lara Kay.

Due to the high customer traffic in the summer months, the cafe previously required significant annual maintenance. The introduction of oak slatted walls both internally and externally minimizes the frequency of maintenance and makes the space more resilient to daily wear and tear. The slats also serve as a display system for event posters and menu boards which can be hooked on along with decorative planters which adorn the walls. Photo by Laura Kay.

Inside the studio lies a spacious, light-filled interior. It is the perfect place for Søren’s comedy shows, sketches, and music, but also provides a calm, pleasant space shared by the whole family. “Our kids enjoy being in there and playing or falling asleep on the floor as well,” says Lone.

Technically, this small building is not a tree house, since it’s braced at the ground by supports, but Grey didn’t want to compromise the tree, which “doesn’t have a very long lifespan,” the designer says. “So, I didn’t want to jeopardize however long that tree had with any excess baggage.”
