Although the home's historic front facade needed to be preserved, the back of the residence was ripe for a remodel. The architects cladded the exterior in eastern cedar. The wood is offset with large expanses of glass, as well as yellow accents to add a playful atmosphere.
The rear of the house features Victorian brick, a modern extension, and Velfac windows. Landscape designer Matthew Wright was inspired by the art of Henri Rousseau when choosing plants to set amid the garden’s Dorset pebbles.
Sitting on the edge of a lake in the Mornington Peninsula, this house by Melbourne-based MA Architects was designed as a series of teak-clad modules with the main living areas in the center and large deck that extends from the living room.

Since the front door is located in the exterior wall, residents first enter a vast garden before reaching the gable roof house.

A level, trellised garapa-wood deck connects the main structure to the pool house. “The arbors near the pool knit everything together,” says Mikiten. “The deck is constructed over a drainage pit so the wood surface can be completely flush with the interior floor and the surrounding yard, which is critical for a fluid experience by someone using a wheelchair.”

This compact extension at the rear of a suburban house in Melbourne, Australia, includes a ground-level garage on its street-facing side, a studio guest suite on the first floor, and a roof deck—all of which are designed to be versatile and convertible.
What's more, is that on the ground level, the north face of the building is connected to a pool and outdoor terrace that links the extension to the main house.

It is all about contemplating the nature

The main living space and the entry-level interior of the house offer a view of the horizon, sea and local topography. The house features an impossible light steel frame and concrete footings to support the cedar box that contains the living space. From the living room, the owners can capture a 180 degrees view, due to the panoramic windows. The bedroom offers an axial and longer view across the cliff that parallels with the coast.
The combination of a low concrete wall and built-in bench creates an intimate seating area that acts as an extension to the kitchen and dining room. Another steel trellis above creates an armature for more plants that will fill in and provide shade. The terrace is topped with blue stone and wood screens give the plants a ladder on which to grow.
