Fitted with a new black-framed window unit, the new, light-filled living room features a sofa and coffee table from Beitili.
A massive concrete hearth, placed just off center, anchors the living room. The Douglas fir floors have been painted a creamy white.
"There are two potential places to sleep in Marjorie, one is where the table is, but our favorite is where the two sofas are," says Bonnie. "I installed a small ledge right beneath the cushion and had a piece of wood cut to match its size. It lives underneath one of the cushions and at night, we slide it out to make a bed. The back cushions fit side by side on top of the wood to make it a complete king-size bed!"
Sliding walls wallpapered with Pimpernell by William Morris separate the bathroom from the lounge/sleeping space.
“Stone, timber, heaviness, masculinity were definitely very big a few years ago, but now it’s becoming more feminine, intricate, and delicate as far as architecture,” explains architect Jamie Daugaard.
The original layout had a tiny living area in the front that wasn’t spacious enough to accommodate entertaining. To create more space, Tang converted the second floor into a larger living room. Here, chairs and sofa from All Modern; drapery and rug from West Elm; fireplace custom-finished in Venetian plaster; light fixture from Lambert et Fils.
The wall of glass brings a sense of the outdoors in—a sensibility that Eichler homes are well-known for possesing.
