A simple material palette of polished concrete, white surfaces, and timber details create a light, warm, neutral space that’s enhanced by colorful artwork and homeware—and plenty of natural light.
Dash Marshall introduced new furniture, lighting, floors, and trim, as well as custom-designed millwork installed by Casagrande Woodworks. The living room features a Vico #13K782 (Morandi 3) sofa, armchairs by Cassina, and a Milo Baughman-designed, Thayer Coggin bronze finished steel coffee table.
Walnut storage, both open and closed, frames a black-painted wall with a fireplace at its center. The wall treatment can also hide a future television. "A dark wall is a great way to keep a large screen from feeling like a big black hole on the wall," notes the firm.
Elements of the American West blend with natural materials and rich textures to create a warm, welcoming retreat that celebrates great design.
The living room boasts original wood paneled ceiling and walls, and beautiful built-in bookshelves.
The living space opens to the patio and pool area.
Built in wood shelving sits below clerestory windows, opposite a large brick fireplace with a sculptural chute.  Expansive windows provide views of the Bay beyond.
To create a sense of luxury on a budget, the architect ran a thin concrete border along either side of the fireplace flue and flanked it with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. The second story has two lofts joined by a steel bridge.
