Along with designing the reception area, Marc Morro created the wood furniture in the bedrooms. Morro is one of the founders of AOO—a small company in Barcelona that designs and produces original furniture pieces that are made locally by themselves, artisans, or small manufacturers. Shown here is the lounge area of Libertine, the hotel’s bar that doubles as a restaurant.
Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1955, the Louis Penfield House is a 1,730-square-foot, residence in Lake County, Ohio, that has details like ribbon windows, “goutenjou” coffered ceilings, and a floating wooden staircase inspired by Japanese minimalism.
Cedar wood seamlessly extends from inside to outside, creating a continuous extension to the woods beyond.   Adirondack chairs provide the perfect viewing point from the balcony.
A bespoke flue was manufactured for the wood-burning fireplace to reach the 10-meter ceiling height.
Takeshi Nii’s Ny chair is paired with a Reese sofa and cherry Grove nightstand from Room & Board in the living room.
Paired with a lime rendered staircase, a gray Moreau sofa by Pinch and vintage yellow side tables offer bright contrast to the living room’s limestone walls and timber frame. The couple laid some 20,000 pieces of reclaimed oak to create the floor’s herringbone pattern.
The Bank Slimm sofa by local furniture purveyor Loods 5 is paired with pieces sourced from British retailers Made and Habitat in the second-floor living room.
The double-height great room encompasses much of the completely renewed section in the middle of the home—which includes the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. Since the existing floor slabs had cracks in them, Jay and Melissa floated new concrete floor slabs over the existing. They replicated the original as close as possible, and polished the final result.

The living room furniture includes  a Williams-Sonoma floor lamp  and a custom ottoman made by Prestige Furniture and upholstered in Romo fabric. The residents doubled the number of windows in the dimly lit house.

“The inside is, for the most part, concentrated on the local craftsmanship, because I believe it is very important,” Vanotti says. “It represents our history.” Artisan Vanotti Mauro built many parts of the building, including its most prominent feature: the larch wood accents.
