The modern living room is one of the busiest spots in the house. It is where family and friends alike gather to share stories, watch movies, read, and unwind. As you'll find in the projects below, there are endless ways to configure a fresh living space with modern options for chairs and sofas, sectionals, end and coffee tables, bookcases, benches, and more. Innovative fireplaces add a touch of warmth.

Around the corner from the foyer, there’s a set of Epos Elan 10 speakers in cherry cabinets.
Rug designer Nani Marquina and photographer Albert Font created their home in a peaceful corner of the Spanish party island of Ibiza. In their living room is a pair of kilim-covered chairs by Philippe Xerri, a chest of drawers by Piet Hein Eek, and a handmade Tunisian rug provide bursts of color amidst the overall scheme of white, ecru, and cream.
The living room furniture includes  a Williams-Sonoma floor lamp  and a custom ottoman made by Prestige Furniture and upholstered in Romo fabric. The residents doubled the number of windows in the dimly lit house.
Cape Cod Fabrications built  the weathered-steel screens that  lend form to the staircase.
A fireplace and central heating keeps the open space warm and inviting.
The drawing room, the couple’s principal entertaining space, contains many highlights of the exhibition, including two Tonico lounge chairs by Sergio Rodrigues; a jacaranda bench by Alberto Reis; a leather-and-rosewood sling chair fabricated by Liceu de Artes e Oficios de São Paulo; and drawings by the contemporary Brazilian artist Paulo Climachauska. Sayes and Stock furnished their living area with a Slow Chair by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra, and a Spar floor light by Jamie McLellan for Resident. A print by Stephen Bambury sits atop a sideboard that Sayes built while studying at the University of Auckland.
In the living room, a Vipp table lamp rests on a Hockney sofa by Eero Koivisto for David Design.

The quaint living space features a stained-glass window, lofted sleeping platform, vaulted ceilings, and arched-sash windows.

Room 1, located on the 2nd floor,  blends industrial detailing with exposed brick walls, polished concrete floors, rich textile finishes, and a custom walnut bed.
A new skylight regulates the living room’s natural light. Ronan set up great contrasts in the space with the bone white walls and ceiling, black wall unit with built-in fireplace, and the crisply framed courtyard. The owners enhanced the space further with vibrant photography and furnishings.

When entering the house, one could easily perceive its fluidity at the first glance.
After relocating from Milan to the small Baroque town of Modica in Sicily, architect couple Marco Giunta and Viviana Haddad  purchased and restored an old house they found with locally sourced stones, tiles and plaster. They now operate it as Casa Talia – a boutique hotel where guests can experience life at a more leisurely pace.
The ceiling is a composite of several curved surfaces, the seams of which implicitly implying the activities underneath.
