A structural steel wall in the living area doubles as a built-in bookcase. The side chairs, floor lamps, and dining chairs were salvaged from the Hotel Crillón in Lima. The daybed and coffee table were designed by Maria Eugenia Alvarez-Calderón, who helped Irzio and Lisette with the interiors. The fireplace is from Fireorb and, as throughout, the floor is poured white acrylic by Química Suiza.
The living room is five steps down from the kitchen and office space and features textured black slate tile from Olympia Tile, Voyage Immobile sofas with Farniente collection upholstery (a wedding present from Flanders’s mother) by Roche Bobois, and a rug from Turkmenistan the couple picked up in Jerusalem. The sliding glass doors are by Loewen and the glazing above is by Inline Fiberglass. Sawatzky relied on Wayne Arsenault for the custom millwork and carpentry.

A suspended oak sideboard runs the length of the living room. The project leads designed that piece and the black-painted metal shelves on the wall; both were fabricated by Giuseppe Motta,a local artisan. A 14.1 pendant by Omer Arbel for Bocci hangs near one end.
Combining a prefab steel super-structure with concrete walls and insulated metal panels, Anthrazit House in Santa Barbara was designed by architects Pamela and Hector Magnus and built in collaboration with EcoSteel.“This wasn’t a traditional Santa Barbara site with large acreage,” Hector says. “It was small and steep.” Expansive windows on the second floor face a park.
David perches on a custom sofa by Classic Sofa; Linda sits on an Ethiopian chair that they bought at a charity auction for the Museum for African Art in Manhattan. The Chicago shelving unit is from Blu Dot.
In the living room, a warm woodsy palette reigns, with a few blue-gray notes to create a serene mood.

The TV room features a USM credenza for the television; the couple’s Petrie sofa is from Crate and Barrel. The coffee table is custom.

From the 33rd floor, the view of Lake Michigan is expansive. Linen curtains from The Shade Store filter sunlight. Extra lighting is provided by LED ceiling lights, a Tatou F floor lamp by Patricia Urquiola, and a Copycat table lamp by Michael Anastassiades for Flos.

A skillful configuration of restrained materials and natural light lets a gallery, studio, and residence merge inside one compelling shell. 
Kouichi Kimura, the founder of FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects based in the Japanese prefecture of Shiga, wrapped the upper floor of this building in sheets of galvanized steel in order to reflect light and intensify its street presence.
Bornstein derives endless inspiration from his massive collection of design books. The clip lamps attached at the top shelf provide an easy, and targeted, lighting scheme.
The first thing visitors see as they enter the house is Bornstein’s impressive collection of architecture and design books. The sofa and chair were designed by Bornstein for Swedese.
A pressed-steel Parallel shelving system by Terence Woodgate holds books and mementos.

More color is found in the living area's tapestries, including a round rug and  multiple sofa pillows. A contemporary brass and glass pendant light hangs above the glass coffee table.
A specialist was hired to scrub layers of paint, plaster, and petroleum-based waterproof coating off the historic brickwork.

Around the corner from the foyer, there’s a set of Epos Elan 10 speakers in cherry cabinets.
Lara and Ethan Pagnier have hosted over 40 travelers since joining Airbnb, and it's easy to see what attracts them. Apart from owning a spotless home in San Francisco's coveted Mission district, the pair are natural hosts.
Visitors to the home are greeted by a George Nelson Bubble pendant in the entryway, a striking counterpoint to the home’s traditional shingle facade.
Vince chose most of the furnishings in the house, including a pair of Marcel Breuer’s Wassily chairs for Knoll in the library.

The move has helped the couple pare back on material items. Annette offers some sage advice for homeowners who are looking to do the same: “There are so many things we accumulate that we don’t need. If it doesn’t fit now, it’s not going to fit any better in a couple of years. If you don’t like it now, you’re not going to like it any better in a couple of years. Give it to someone else who needs it and who’s going to appreciate it.”

The most immediately striking feature of this 1,400-square-foot in a 21-floor high-rise is the shelving unit/room divider between the kitchen and living area.
The addition of custom steel-and-glass windows significantly opened up the apartment, adding visibility and light between spaces in this family-centric environment. Muted blues and grays in pastel tones keep the space feeling soft, cool, and relaxed, while the Conran Pembury sofa, La Redoute tables, and Petite Friture pendants add a distinctly contemporary air.
