SHED replaced the windows with new wood units of the same style. Note how the shelving at the half-wall aligns perfectly with the window mullions.
The small window has been replaced with a large glazed door, and the original fireplace has been restored and reinstated.
In the richly hued living room, a Milo Baughman coffee table with a chrome base and custom marble top pairs with Milo Baughman barrel chairs that have been reupholstered in a saturated blue fabric. A custom velvet sofa adds another textured layer. A custom light fixture with crystal bulbs from The Future Perfect hangs like jewelry above the space, and a geometric painting by senior JHID designer Chelsie Lee ties the colors together.
"In our living room, we have a fairly large abstract piece from Sally King Benedict that was gifted from her years ago," says Amanda.
A hammock chair in the living room overlooks the wood stove at the center and the sofa against the west wall, creating a cozy living space.
Wei painted the brick hearth to reduce the visual clutter and create a calm backdrop.
The luminous parlor space features two working fireplaces (one wood, one gas). Original pocket doors provide optional separation of the living and dining areas.

The house’s original asymmetry remains pronounced in the remodel. The custom island, over 11 feet long and made of fir with leather panel inlays trimmed with patina steel, was designed by Carolyn Woofter, and works to separate the living area from the enlarged dining area, which can now seat 16 people for dinner. The Cornogs commissioned the carving between the windows. It’s by Monica Setziol-Phillips, Leroy Setziol’s daughter.
The 1894 Queen Anne Victorian features an open floor plan that juxtaposes classic original features with cool modern elements—many of which are customized for the home.
A cozy, library-like reading area lies just off the dining area. The wood-burning fireplace has a gas starter.
There is also a lovely, light-filled, sitting area.
The light-filled parlor features two original wood and tile mantels (one at either end) and 11-foot ceilings.
Living room
The minimalist living room includes built-in seating.
The living space is anchored by a brick-inlay fireplace with expansive glazing on either side, also a key Eichler feature.
The open-plan living area features soaring, vaulted ceilings thanks to the double A-frame design.
The central fireplace anchors the open-plan living space and serves as a divider between the rooms. Mahogany-framed sliding doors lead out to the deck. The living space features oak floors throughout.

Built in wood shelving sits below clerestory windows, opposite a large brick fireplace with a sculptural chute. Expansive windows provide views of the Bay beyond.
The coffee table is from Baxter & Liebchen and the custom felt rug is by Karkula; built-in daybeds by woodworker Rick Bradbury feature cushions by Chelsea Workroom upholstered in vintage Maharam fabric and leather.
Subverting the traditional, conservatively cozy British barn conversion, Carl Turner created a getaway in rural Norfolk for himself and his friends to visit, repose, and consider the beauty of agrarian minimalism. Turner reclaimed most of the timber used for the flooring as he renovated buildings in London. He thought his stockpile was big enough for the Ochre Barn, but the scale of the place defeated him. The solution, surprisingly, was eBay, turning up an old mill’s worth of boards.
