In an effort to keep costs within budget without sacrificing looks, the fully gutted and renovated kitchen features IKEA cabinetry framework with shaker-style fronts by Semihandmade. The cabinets were painted Farrow & Ball Pigeon.
The cozy kitchen is sectioned off by a partially glazed partition walls.

Taking cues from their style-conscious clients, Portland-based Jessica Helgerson Interior Design transforms an Amagansett home into a light-filled, Scandinavian-inspired getaway. The kitchen expanded to a location where there had been a screened-in porch, increasing its interior footprint.
Now, the new kitchen is ideal for cooking big meals and socializing. White cabinetry and Carrara marble counters lend an airy feel.
The original cast-iron supporting columns have been painted black to provide a striking contrast to the warm wood.
The kitchen countertop is Silestone White Zeus; the bar countertop (foreground) is Opal White marble.
A chain curtain from Cascade Coil separates the kitchen  without interrupting sightlines or sunlight. “When you light the outside brighter than the inside at night, it becomes more opaque,” says Mark. Bulthaup cabinetry joins appliances by Gaggenau and Miele.

Clerestory windows and skylights have also been added to the roof and façade to bring more light into the cavernous interiors.

Walnut and book-matched  Calcutta kitchen
The couple made the most dramatic changes in the kitchen. They installed Carrara marble and custom oiled-steel cabinetry. The artwork is by Cecil Touchon. Near the Wind Crest cooktop is a Bosch oven.
Kitchen and island
The interior designer of the kitchen and breakfast nook, Ian Stallings, was inspired by the movies. "This house inspired me to think of 1930s screwball romantic comedies," he says. "Something rarely seen in such films are kitchens, so I thought for the back of the house I would turn up the Technicolor and trade it in for contemporary digital cinema. If this room was a movie, it would be Rated G, but this is interior design so I thought it should be Rated IS, for Ian Stallings."
Chris, a retired commodities derivatives trader, served as the general contractor, with guidance from builder Mike Paulsen. Decorum Arch Stone fabricated the waterfall countertop made of Colorado Gold marble; Scott Cabinets did the millwork. The cooking range is by Wolf. Trove wallpaper accents the far wall of the powder room at the end of the corridor.
The customized open kitchen features top-of-the-line appliances.

The ground floor features an open-plan family room, chef’s kitchen with oversized island.
"There's a nice tension that exists in this renovation. The building has exquisite original architectural details, and we kept the delicacy of that detailing at the front of our minds as we designed—allowing it to serve as our inspiration for the slender proportions that prevail in the kitchen and the dressing room millwork. We added arched elements on the existing windows. Additionally, an extra arched framing device that springs from corbels acts as a divider between the kitchen and dining room," explains Kevin Greenberg of Space Exploration.
The once-hermitic kitchen now has a direct view of the patio and pool. The hood is by Zephyr, the cooktop is by Miele, the refrigerator is by Sub-Zero, the ovens are by GE Monogram, and the stand mixer is by KitchenAid.The Sebastian barstools and Trådig fruit bowl are also from Ikea.
The Grain pendant in the kitchen is by industrial designer Brendan Ravenhill, a friend of Hrishikesh and his wife, Lindsey Lund Mortensen.
“We placed the kitchen at the center of the house to link with the dining room and the outdoor space,” Moreau says. In the kitchen, a Wolf oven brings out the silver details in Coit’s Bianco Cararra backsplash and island. Hee bar stools by Hay are lined under the island.
The cabinets are black matte glass by Leicht. The floating walnut table, shelves and light are by Matt Eastvold.
The floors have hydronic heating embedded in a matte finished concrete. The stone slab is Calacatta Viola. The table is custom designed by the architect and fabricated by Gerardo Villa.

Dacor’s truefit integration combined the modern look of graphite stainless steel is designed to seamlessly blend in with a wider range of cabinetry.
In the kitchen, the showstopping ceiling’s herringbone pattern is echoed by the terra-cotta tiles on the floor. Architect Michael O’Sullivan, who designed the steel-and-glass kitchen cabinets, the table, and the pendant lights (made by Lava Glass), further amped up the richness of the room by specifying an onyx kitchen island. Interior designer Yvette Jay, a collaborator and classmate of O’Sullivan, kept her material palette “tight and limited. I had to restrict myself so that everything here ties in with the architecture.”
Custom kitchen cabinets designed by Pulltab and fabricated by Maciek Winiarczyk hold mostly vintage ironstone that Geiger has found at flea markets and estate sales over the past 20 years. “I love white,” she says, “because I think food always looks better on it.” She also collects vintage wooden cutting boards, shown resting against the marble tile backsplash from Stone Source.
Known for its thermal properties, rammed earth helps maintain a mild temperature all-year-long. A large fireplace is used to warm the living area in winter.
“We put a lot of energy—and at least half our investment—into the bones of the building because we intend to be here for a long time,” says Lauren Snyder, who resuscitated an aging home alongside her husband, architect Keith Burns.

The search for a 13-foot-long island to fit their kitchen led them to marry Calacatta Miele and stainless steel to make one giant counter. Marble, they discovered, was available only in 10-foot slabs, due to the dimensions of shipping containers.
Alter integrated wood from the original bungalow into the kitchen and covered the island in Carrara marble. New appliances include a Wolf range, a Broan hood, and a Miele oven and refrigerator. The Fucsia pendant lights are by Achille Castiglioni for Flos, and the benches are from RAD Furniture.
