Originally created by Guy Chirico Sr. in 1966 as the Scribner Hollow Motor Lodge, the property was designed with modernist elements during a time when the Catskills really started to become the place to be for NYC-dwellers to escape. Since then, the Hudson Valley has seen a massage amount of development that caters to creatives seeking an inspirational refuge.

A perpendicular wing houses the garage. The house has no air conditioning, relying on lake breezes and cross-ventilation for cooling. Each bedroom has a screened door that opens to the deck and an adjustable transom above the hallway door to encourage the circulation of air.

Two fin-like, metal-clad walls rise from the crown of the hill to support a three-story plywood box suspended a full story above grade.
Black steel covers the steeply pitched roof, while the exterior walls are wrapped in charred cedar.
Standing seam siding gives a durable exterior finish, with plywood panels adding warm accents.
