The open-plan kitchen and dining space is punctuated by a double-height space, which loosely divides the two zones of use.
The formal dining area, also on the top level of the home, features Mid-Century furniture and lighting.

From the stained wallpaper, to the lacquered floorboards, to the timber joinery, every element has been hand finished using traditional techniques.

Custom cabinetry lines the dining area, which is defined by a large wood dining table and colorful glass pendant lighting.
An oversize oval black linen shade from Dogfork Lamp Arts hangs above a table Maca created out of a wood slab from West Marin-based artisan Evan Shively of Arborica. The bench seats are De La Espada; the brass candelabrum is vintage, sourced from 1stDibs. The credenzas are Bo Concept.
Mahogany paneling, original to the house, was reused as much as possible.
The concrete wall mimics the slope of the hill outside as a reference to early Maori structures that were dug into the land. The simple kitchen has strandboard cabinetry and an MDF island that conceals a fireplace at one end. The ceramic works on the built-in seat at right are by Raewyn Atkinson and Robyn Lewis.
Dining are with custom table and millwork by Christian Woo.
This former garage is now converted into a large open space. The dining room opens onto the residence garden and an office space overlooks the living room.
