Keeping the region’s temperate climate in mind, the architects have inserted sliding doors and operable windows throughout the home to enable ventilation and decrease the need for air conditioning.
Sliding glass doors have been inserted along the entire width of the kitchen/dining/living room area, enabling the home to be completely open to the elements. The heated cement floors and two indoor fireplaces provide warmth on cooler days.
Here, you can see how the kitchen has been inserted into the center of the living space for easy entertaining.
A large dining table with a built-in banquette can comfortably seat an entire family, as well as a group of friends. Bright colors add a nice spark to the otherwise neutral palette.

The kitchen is spacious, open, and bright, overlooking a more casual eating-and-sitting area.
A magnificent corner sliding door unit opens up to expand the home to an outdoor deck.  “When you walk in and look at the mountains, the beauty is overwhelming,” adds Pam.
Workroom director and architect John Bornas has worked with AGUSHI on several projects, and both teams are much in agreement when it comes to design sensibilities and attention to detail.
The open floor plan features an impressive great room with vaulted ceilings which have been painted white.

Contemporary details in the kitchen flow into the dining room where a preserved sense of the home's original Edwardian character continues to exist.

We sourced a duet of custom-fabricated benches, with fabric from Donghia, and a lighting fixture from a local artisan.

The dining and kitchen areas take up one side of the ground level.
The four-sided fireplace composed of travertine and steel is a focal point for the living and dining areas.

By saving money on her dining table, which is a piece of walnut countertop from IKEA, Morrison was able to budget for splurges like a bespoke, pink velvet sofa from Anthropologie. The artwork is by her brother, who also happens to be her roommate.
The custom built-ins create the perfect breakfast nook, complete with a built-in bench and pantry storage on both sides. A new window draws additional daylight into the space.
This result is an energy-efficient, eco-friendly building that has a minimal impact on the environment.
The rear garden looks into the kitchen and dining space right through the internal courtyard and beyond.
A sunlit, open-plan living room, dining room, and kitchen are located on the first level.
The original staircase in the northern section was demolished, and a new staircase with a skylight was built in the center of the house.
A built-in barbecue is just accessible on the other side of the dining room. The chairs are the Pianca ‘Esse’ from Meizai.
For the finish palette, the architects have chosen travertine and timber, using the wood strategically to foster flow. Travertine lines the floor, counters, and kitchen island, while timber is used to define the ceiling, highlight feature walls, and encase cabinetry.
The new kitchen-living area is spanned by a 25-foot steel beam.
Mohamed removed the wall between the dining area and kitchen but kept a partition near the front door. Eames chairs join a Connubia dining table.
On the second level, maple floors connect all the rooms together, unifying the composition.
"I transformed the dining room into a meeting room, which has the ability to close off from the rest of the house for privacy," Sutherland adds.

The floor of the study, which is located on the lower ground floor, is fitted with vibrant clay tiles that brighten the lightwells.

We designed a custom walnut bar that is intended for storage, but also serves as a buffet and bar when they have guests over. They like to set it up so guests can help themselves, so we designed it to include two refrigerators: one for wine, and the second for water, soda, and other beverages.
