"The dining room is a transitional space between the old and new—in this space
we simplified the material palate, painting all decorative woodwork matte white to emphasize its geometry over its materiality," said the architects. The room holds a midcentury dining set and pendent lights from Raco.

"I always like to shoot the kitchen, dining, and living room, and at least one bathroom and one bedroom," Neustadt notes. This gives the client enough options for either putting their home on the market, or pitching it to a publication.
Floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides of the living area create the illusion of a continuous, open space. Concrete floors help with passive cooling.

When designer Michael Corsar converted a late Victorian utility building in Suffolk

In the restaurant San Morello, a palette of soft brown, white, and blue is amplified by soaring window panels.
A custom designed built-in tufted banquette creates a soft, lush seating area at the live edge dining table. The velvet upholstery contrasts the exposed white-washed original brick in both texture and era. Overhead a brass chandelier with exposed Edison bulbs references the former Swan Incandescent Electric Light Co.  which occupied the loft after construction was completed in 1897.

Throughout the house, Curtiss mixed natural materials with industrial ones. Downstairs, fir and cedar wood on the doors and open-joisted ceiling balance the colder, industrial feel of the concrete floor and steel staircase railing. In the dining room, a pendant lamp from RLM Lighting hangs above a table that combines Cherner table legs with a new white laminate top. The yellow chairs are by Tolix.

Another simple, white kitchen with black countertops is this diminutive kitchen in Singapore. Light pours in through the large window, and a tiny but tasteful farmhouse kitchen table rests in the middle of everything.
Aaron Schiller provided the interior furnishings for the house, and designed and fabricated several important pieces, including the 12-foot-long dining table made of stack-laminated, hand-carved walnut. The table’s bases were roughly shaped with a chain saw, then sanded in swooping curves reminiscent of boats one sees on the Atlantic beyond.
Above the kitchen and dining room, a glass bridge connects bedrooms on the third floor. "The glass flooring allows the southern light to penetrate farther into the space, but also creates a special moment of pause to experience the scale and volume of the space below and towering trees beyond," says Maniscalco.
The double-height, fully glazed volume at the home's rear "brings significant light into the home, while simultaneously creating a moment to experience the verticality of the surrounding trees which loom above the home," explains Maniscalco.
Expansive oak-framed pivot doors frame views of the rear garden, and also form a functional extension to the kitchen for dining, socializing, and play.
