Lighting was heavily considered when designing the space, from the natural light at dusk when the lounge opens to the interior lighting to transition into night.

There is a built-in dining nook with a custom walnut dining table and two benches that can fit up to six people. When mealtime is over, the automated table can be lowered at the push of a button to create more lounging room. This space is also large enough to fit a king size bed.

On the upper level, underneath a domed roof, sleeping areas and a bathroom allow guests to once again enjoy views of the mountains—this time from under a rain shower.
The Lobby Reception space is adorned with mid-century modern pendant lighting, tropical wall graphics,  and color furnishings.

Guests are greeted by plush leather booths and classic hardwood floors in the chic bar area.
In contrast to the dark, almost monolithic exterior, the interior is full of light, thanks in part to the whitewashed woodwork and floors. “Because the space is so small, I felt I needed to allow the light to travel all over,” says Samantha. The undercounter refrigerator and freezer are by Summit Appliance. Much of the furniture, like the dining table, is built-in.

When you visit The Distillery, you’ll find GinTonica on the first floor, a Spanish-inspired bar and kitchen that celebrates Spain’s connection to juniper. You can try a number of different experimental takes on the Gin and Tonic, which is served in a traditional Copa de Balón—a balloon goblet glass.
Sunset pendants by Treviso-based Torremato illuminate a custom table and bench as well as a trio of Eames chairs. Di Stefano and Bongiorno used lighting to structure the open plan: “We put accents on focus points; we didn’t want the light completely spread out,” Di Stefano says.

Mary Blodgett and Carlton Calvin initially approached Fung + Blatt to design a ceramics studio on their Southern California property, which contains a 1950s house by modernist architect Calvin Straub.
The Drop Hat pendants are by Plumen and the convertible sofa is by Resource Furniture.
In recognition of the holiday attitude that pervades Palm Springs, the pool area will incorporate a screen wall that provides a surface for projection and reflects on the water for a festive vibe.
The dining area features a flexible, rolling table and benches that can accommodate up to 12 guests.
