To minimize waste and reuse workable infrastructure, Aparium kept the original wood beams and steel pipes throughout The Iron Horse. Locally-produced textiles and artwork were also added to provide decorative accents in the rooms.
The master bedroom, which features a bed by Paolo Piva, an Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen, and a Ball pendant lamp by George Nelson, opens directly onto a verdant patio. The metal shutters at the bottom of the window keep out flying embers in case of fire.
In the master bedroom, the rocking chair is by Thonet and the bespoke rug is by Armadillo & Co.
The headboard in Hansen’s bedroom echoes the 2013 side-board. The wallpaper is from Arte.

The client, says architect Filipi Oliveira, “wanted everything to communicate without the need for doors in the internal environments.”
The furnishings reflect an eclectic mix of old and new. In a second-floor guest room, a bedside table by Fort Standard holds a vintage lamp.
This small, L-shaped apartment has a bed box with an arched doorway with white walls and plywood finishings.
