Located on the fifth floor of an unassuming building in Datong district, Play Design Hotel is a hidden gem with only a small sign to announce its presence. Polished concrete walls and floors coupled with large, black, metal-framed windows create an elegant backdrop for the hand-picked design objects sourced from over 100 local Taiwanese designers.
The general contractor’s former office space was converted into a small apartment dwelling for the couple.
The bedroom is located on the uppermost level that connects to a small outdoor balcony.
The Bamboo House features three bedrooms to accommodate the clients' sons when they visit.
The activities of the ground floor can be seen and heard from the bedroom level.
The bed is flanked by two staircases, one of which is hidden behind a white curtain. Hidden storage is integrated into the stair design.
The bedroom box is surrounded by hidden storage, from the white closet (seen behind the red dog) to built-in drawers. The wooden surface behind the yellow chair can be extended out to create a dining tabletop.
The Drum table by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin also has brass and bronze accents. The ebonized oak headboard has upholstered insets of tie-dyed kona cotton.
Natural light fills every room of the bright and airy addition.
On the upper floor, the peaked roof form is revealed. A built-in headboard provides some separation between the functional spaces within the suite.

In the bedroom, Mantis lamps by Bernard Schottlander, along with a Snow bureau by Swedish designers Thomas Sandell and Jonas Bohlin, add to the stylish, minimalist atmosphere.
The wall in the master bedroom is upholstered in tropical print fabric by Christian Lacroix.
On the upper level is a corridor with a studio, library, and gallery that leads to the ensuite master bedroom.
