Constructed in 1909, the building was named for its original occupants, The Free Methodist Publishing House, before it became the Museum of Holography, and was bought by the new owners in 2012. They tapped Nushu Architecture and contractor Vero Design + Build for a renovation of the structure to include 11 bedrooms, a capacious communal area, a kitchen, and a fully-equipped lounge.

External shutters and screens allow the homeowners to manage the sunlight and cross ventilation in certain rooms. Manos Mavridis, also of OLA Studio, explains, “There was a preference for the screens to be manually operated to minimize ongoing maintenance costs and encourage user engagement with their environment."
“The smaller size makes life more manageable. You tend to be tidier thanyou would be if you had more stuff and places to hide it away,” Hill says.
A variation on the system serves as a wardrobe in the sleeping loft. Additional storage can be found in the walnut platform with side tables. Although it appears less in the photo, the space between the platform and the lowest part of the ceiling is about four and a half feet, allowing René to comfortably sit up in bed. A Lutron screen lowers for privacy.
The master bedroom is furnished with an Egyptian lantern from l’aviva home, built-in closets, and bedding by Restoration Hardware.
Custom folding doors, inspired by Rudolf M. Schindler’s 1930 Elliot House, were created by Rene Maya to Andrew’s specifications.
A pair of floating nightstands in the master bedroom are by Børge Mogensen; the sconces are by Kurt Versen and came with the house. The panel of fabric over the oak Matera bed from Design Within Reach is Incantation, by Lustig— the piece was originally  used as a curtain.

The bed, bedside tables, and console are all designed by Miguel Marcelino. The Glo-Ball bedside lamps are by Jasper Morrison and the Tolomeo wall lamp is by Michele De Lucchi.
