An 800-square-foot addition expands the Virginia home of Lauren and Josh Stegall. Built for $120,000, the structure has a large window overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway and Sugarloaf Mountain.
A variation on the system serves as a wardrobe in the sleeping loft. Additional storage can be found in the walnut platform with side tables. Although it appears less in the photo, the space between the platform and the lowest part of the ceiling is about four and a half feet, allowing René to comfortably sit up in bed. A Lutron screen lowers for privacy.
The master bedroom is furnished with an Egyptian lantern from l’aviva home, built-in closets, and bedding by Restoration Hardware.
A floating cabinet was created by Lustig in 1953 for an interior design commission in New Jersey. The Sparrow crib is by Oeuf.

The older couple's bedroom contains large amounts of storage space, which is in accord with their living habits.
The guest quarters in the shipping container behind the main house is one of the Freeman's favorite places. "We just haven't figured out how to use it yet," he says. When Eli was younger and woke up earlier, either Freeman or Feldman would take him back here to play without waking the other parent. Now, it is predominantly used by out-of-town visitors and when the couple's parents come to stay. "The main house is such a social space that I worry about being misinterpreted as antisocial if I go to the guest quarters," Freeman says.

“This way you have a sequence,” Lynch explains. “The stair is a circulator, and after you take off your coat, you can go downstairs to the powder room or up to the living floor.” On the other side of the millwork, he devised built-in storage and niches for display, as shown in the master bedroom, located on the second floor.
