The bedroom
A Buster and Punch pendant light hangs in the bedroom.
A Lawson Fenning cane bed, Selig night stands with fabric sling, an antique screen, and an antique barrel chair are in the master chambers.
A sweeping expanse of glass spans the corner in the master suite, integrating a sense of the outdoors into the bedroom.
Light streams into the bedroom through walls of floor-to-ceiling glass. The windows are triple-glazed, creating a tight, eco-friendly seal.
A vintage red Italian pendant hangs overhead. The painting at the top of the stairs is by Barbara Johnson. “Having paintings in the house gives a wonderful sense of fantasy,” says Michael. “They enrich the house without competing with the beach.”
The sun-filled second story, which serves as the master bedroom and lounge, is pierced by a metal chimney. The Fusion bed by Zeitraum is flanked by nightstands by Robert Kuo and lamps by Cedric Hartman from the 1960s. A custom Moroccan rug covers the floor. A pair of refinished midcentury Danish chairs sit beside a Hans Wegner chest.
All of the existing windows were replaced with newer versions by the company that did the originals, Arcadia. The master bedroom and bathroom are located where the kitchen and dining area once were. The floating bed is by TemaHome and the Mirror Ball pendant is by Tom Dixon.
Two bedrooms and a full bath are located on the main floor, with the master bedroom suite on the second level.
It’s hard to take your eyes and mind off the Statue of Liberty, considering the current political landscape, but there’s also a bird's-eye view of the park’s voluminous tree tops. We forced ourselves to leave the comfort of our room and wander in Brooklyn Bridge Park, where we discovered Anish Kapoor’s public art installation titled Descension. The artwork is a thing of great beauty and strength that took our minds right back to political chaos. But we kept walking until we found Jane’s Carousel and witnessed a diverse sea of beaming toddler faces going around and around on brilliant and fantastic animals—a hope-restoring site.
The bedroom contains an ingenious closet system similar to library stacks. These large sliding cabinets open up to make way for Zulaikha and Laurence as they hang their clothes or access anything else kept in storage.
The three boutique guest rooms feature a combination of midcentury furniture and playful, spirit-inspired accents. Designed by each of the brand’s founding directors, each room includes a minibar filled with spirits that were crafted on-site and a bespoke record player with a vinyl playlist that’s been curated by Rough Trade Records.
Each of the three bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom.
Four bedrooms on the upper level feature wood floors, modern art, and ceiling beams, while the master bedroom on the third floor (pictured here) enjoys an ensuite bathroom and private terrace. On the rooftop, another bronze-clad terrace supplies a barbecue and city views.
A tub zone lined in redwood connects to the master bedroom, which is furnished with a vintage Sergio Rodrigues lounge chair and Voyage Immobile seats from Roche Bobois.
In the bedroom, a 1930s painting by French artist Louis Parrens hangs above a vintage nightstand with a Lampe Gras light, designed in 1921 by Bernard-Albin Gras. The bed is dressed with Merci linens.
Nine-foot ceilings, white walls, and IKEA furniture define the bedroom, located at the back of the container.

The master bedroom’s clerestory window provides morning light while allowing for privacy from the neighbors. The Siena bed is by Naoto Fukasawa for B&B Italia, the side table is Room & Board, and the globe light is vintage. The windows are by Fleetwood and the doors by Bonelli.
Master bedroom: Vanessa bed by Tobia Scarpa for Cassina and Hepburn by De La Espada with Kvadrat fabric upholstery, bedcovers with Rubelli “terrazzo” fabric, Evie Group Oliver Tray side Table, pendant lighting from Modo by Roll & Hill and Commute Design, wall lamps Parola by Fontana Arte, table lamp Parachilna.
Master Bedroom
Located in the bungalow, the master bedroom was updated. On the CB2 Alpine bed are Anichini linens and a Pia Wallén Crux Blanket; Suttles and her mother made the throw pillows. The headboard was crafted from the house’s original wood. The couple repurposed old fruit crates as bedside tables and hung the Hugo Guinness prints.
More prized possessions that made the cut: A George Nelson Half-Nelson lamp sits atop an Alexander Girard bedside table.
Bedroom
"I think of the bed as intimate space," Hughston says, "and putting the bed away—having it out of sight when not in use—is satisfying." The custom-designed Murphy bed, concealed by day behind the gold curtain is well built; it's ergonomically easy to lower and has a firm sleeping surface.
