In the kitchen, the showstopping ceiling’s herringbone pattern is echoed by the terra-cotta tiles on the floor. Architect Michael O’Sullivan, who designed the steel-and-glass kitchen cabinets, the table, and the pendant lights (made by Lava Glass), further amped up the richness of the room by specifying an onyx kitchen island. Interior designer Yvette Jay, a collaborator and classmate of O’Sullivan, kept her material palette “tight and limited. I had to restrict myself so that everything here ties in with the architecture.”

With the help of architects X+L Studio, Nynke Meeuwissen and Mark Aink rehabilitated an old school outside of Amsterdam into a comfortable roost for their family of five. The former gym—with original herringbone parquet floors—is now the living room, furnished with Minotti sofas, a Danskina rug, and a Gyrofocus wood-burning stove.

To maximize space, both sides of the bed are outfitted with wall sockets and reading lights.

In Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen's home (you might recognize Bjerre-Poulsen as the photographer of this Danish house, which was featured in Dwell's April 2012 issue), white walls and cabinets allow details, like the herringbone worksurface crafted from reclaimed wood and lighting fixtures, to shine.

Building off of centuries-old local techniques, Røros Tweed’s blankets are crafted from 100-percent Norwegian wool with collaboration from other Scandinavian designers and textile artists. Designed by Anderssen & Voll, the Åre Throw is woven in a neutral winter white that will complement existing interiors.

insidenorway's prototype exhibition at ICFF, called New Norwegian Design: Plain and Simple, was curated by Paul Makovsky of Metropolis. One of the neatest pieces (among many) was a Røros Tweed blanket designed by architecture firm Snøhetta (shown at right), which folds into a shape that perfectly emulates the practice's logo.

Made from a strong single-ply wool that softens over time, the Field Day Throw features a plaid-inspired pattern with a modern slant—unexpected colors and details complete the textile. Labyrinth blanket in Deep Orange by Cristian Zuzunaga. The Bitmap collection derives its name from the digital compression of images, with pixelated patterns woven in cotton with a touch of nylon for stretch. Available in four reversible colorways.

Renée Rossouw’s South African heritage shines through in her bright, earthy designs. Working under Surface Design company, Robin Sprong Wallpaper, everything is imported from Germany and printed locally. Mint Blanket is lightly geometric and would add a quirky edge to the kitchen or breakfast nook. The orange and mint color combination is surprisingly fantastic. $43 per three square feet.

Designed by Norwegian design studio ELLE mELLE, the Arv Throw from Røros Tweed is inspired by a pattern from the Norwegian hand weaving tradition, but is updated with modern geometric forms and saturated color.

These cashmere-and-merino wool Love Blankets designed by Holly Berry are woven at a 250-year-old mill in Scotland; cleverly, the pattern spells out the word "love" in Morse code.
