After getting its start in concept lighting, Niche Modern has expanded its designs to include other household items, including vases, candle holders, and more. The Stamen Glass Vase was originally imagined from Niche Modern’s Stamen Pendant light, a spherical ceiling light. Recast as a dramatic tabletop vessel, the Stamen is inspired by the natural forms of the flower and can house a variety of delicate blossoms.

The Ateenan Aamu Glass Pendants were designed by Kaj Franck in 1953 and were relaunched by Iittala in 2011 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Franck’s birth. This set of three pendants is light and delicate, and can be used as an interior decoration near a window to create a subtle reflection of light. When moved by a light breeze, the bubbles within each pendant create a soft, enchanting sound. Although each pendant appears similar, Franck designed the bubbles to rest in different places, creating a subtle variance reminiscent of the organic nature of dewdrops on a leaf or rain collected against a windowpane.

This collection of Delinea Glass Pendant Lights shows off the sculptural look of the Plumen 002 bulb. The Plumen 002 has a lifetime of eight years, while typical incandescent bulbs last up to one year. CFLs tend to produce harsh light reminiscent of fluorescent lamps, while the Plumen 002 diffuses warm, soft light, making it an excellent option for ambient settings.

The Convex Votive Holder from Niche Modern is an elegant tabletop accessory that features both a soft, round opening and an angular silhouette.

Inspired by nature, the Calla Pendant Light is designed based on the calla lily flower. The pendant features a tubular incandescent bulb at its center, which resembles a stamen in a flower. The pendant can be used on its own or grouped with other Calla Pendant Lights to create a graphic lighting display in an interior.

Furniture designer Pat Carson created a plethora of custom fixtures for this guest room, including a riveted aluminum Murphy bed. The best Murphy beds raise and lower easily, often requiring only one hand. This unique wall bed employs a hand-cranked wheel-and-pulley system.

Two San Francisco art and travel addicts overhauled a loft—and customized a pair of shipping containers—to accommodate their collection and reflect their passions.

Located in Aarhus, Denmark, Villa R is a minimalist, serene structure clad in zinc panels. "The objective was to create a house that brings the forest inside through large glass panels—and create an ever-changing seasonal backdrop for the interior living spaces," stated the architecture firm, C.F. Møller, of the 3,200-square-foot abode.

The Parisian flat that American-born architect Michael Herrman shares with his wife, Cécile, and their 2-year-old daughter, Rose, had been nearly untouched since the 1790s, when it was built. “But I wanted to try and reveal some of its age in a fresh new context,” Herrman said.

The second-floor office is housed inside a rounded rectangle of concrete that the architect inserted on top of the old farmhouse.

The new volume houses the dining area, which includes stairs to the bedrooms. The table is from Blake Avenue and the walnut chairs are from Room & Board. “You don’t want bright colors to take away from that relationship between the interior and the exterior,” Walker says.

The subway tile-lined bathroom was kept as simple as possible, with Hansgrohe fixtures and cabinets made of vertical-grain Douglas fir above a top-mounted Duravit sink. Since installing a window was unfeasible given the bathroom's proximity to other properties, Storey added a skylight over the shower.

In the guest bathroom, Givone installed a hand-chiseled sink made of 17th-century marble quarried from the hills outside of Rome.

The bedroom is enclosed with a glass wall. A blackout curtain can be drawn closed for privacy. An IKEA cabinet and white lacquered shelves help to provide plenty of closet space.
