The Urban Tree House

From Joy Street Design

Our Oakland studio's founder, Kelly, renovated and designed this 1949 home for her family — it's a colorful abode of color, joy, and the family's personality. The house had three bedrooms and three bathrooms but was completely gutted to make room for four bedrooms and three bathrooms with a proper master suite and walk-in closet. The home is called Urban Treehouse because of the massive oak trees on the property, and Kelly created an indoor-outdoor lifestyle by adding two large cedar decks to these trees.

The living and lounging areas feature brightly colored and comfortable furniture like a blue sofa and a purple sectional. The interiors are infused with art that Kellly collected while traveling. A standout feature is the massive abstract artwork in the living room which can slide into the bookshelf to reveal a TV.

The kitchen features a bold matte black island and hood complemented with abstract printed counter stools and dainty gold pendants. The space also accommodates a cozy breakfast nook with a pretty accent wall and loads of sunlight. The master suite is all about luxury and comfort with an elegant, moody headboard that works as a design focal point, and the kid's room is a quirky, fun space with floral and polka-dot motifs.
