Designed by Riyad Ghannam, this architect-owned residence is at the base of the scenic Esmerelda Steps in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood. Confined by the restrictions of raising a family in a dense, urban, and costly area, the architect acquired this home in probate and remodeled it over the course of the pandemic. This home is designed for family togetherness and social experiences, as well as private moments, with bedrooms on 3 separate levels. The home was reconstructed within the existing envelope of the house. Two staircases were added and lead to the children's loft and bedroom space, with new dormers optimizing the light well and children's space. The built in art desks on the first floor provide a creative space for the parents and children alike.
