Tea House with the Garden: Mix of Traditions and Modernity

This project presented the bureau with a unique challenge – to design a tea house and its adjoining garden as a modern retreat that unites architecture, interior, and landscape into one coherent narrative. While conceived as part of a larger private estate, the focus was on creating a self-contained space of calm, refinement, and cultural dialogue, grounded in a sustainable design philosophy.

The tea house itself was built around the ritual of the tea room. Natural and durable materials were prioritized, including tactile surfaces and bespoke joinery that age gracefully over time. The play of light and shadow becomes an active design element, reducing the need for artificial lighting and deepening the sense of connection to nature. Every design choice was guided by longevity, low impact, and respect for tradition, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

The surrounding landscape expands this philosophy into the open air. The garden was designed as a curated sequence of contemplative zones, where stone, water, and greenery enter into dialogue. Carefully planned pathways and natural transitions heighten awareness of the environment, offering moments of both prospect and refuge. Outdoor furniture was selected with equal attention to sustainability – combining durability, comfort, and timeless elegance to harmonize with the natural setting.

The relaxation areas, pool, and garden feature harmoniously combined armchairs, sofas, tables, and coffee tables from Poliform, Trubu, BOVER, Kettal, Time & Style, and Crate & Barrel.

Together, the tea house and its landscape form more than an aesthetic statement. They represent a retreat from daily life that honors cultural heritage while embracing eco-conscious living. Rooted in tradition yet elevated by a modern, sustainable approach, this project demonstrates how architecture, interior, and landscape can merge into a seamless experience – one defined by intimacy, balance, and environmental responsibility.
