Será at Sandy Ridge sits quietly among the rolling hills of West Virginia, where dense forest and open sky define the landscape. Designed and developed by DVN Development, the project embodies a modern yet deeply contextual approach to rural architecture. One that draws its language directly from nature.
The villas’ rhythmic wood louvers echo the repetition of the surrounding trees, allowing the architecture to feel both deliberate and organic - modern in form yet “of the place.” Behind them, nine-foot windows frame cinematic views of the landscape while the louvers provide a sense of privacy and intimacy, filtering light much like the forest canopy beyond.
The structures are wrapped in Cambium's Carbon Smart Wood, a sustainably sourced material that not only sequesters carbon but also gives each surface, from walls and soffits to louvers, decks, and floors, a tactile warmth. This continuity of material dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, creating a seamless dialogue between architecture and environment.
As an architect-led development, Será at Sandy Ridge exemplifies a growing movement of designers reclaiming authorship over the built environment, where design, development, and stewardship of place are inseparable.
