Saltspring Island House

Inside, the light, bright feel is achieved with large expanses of glass in the entry and overlooking the private woodland, with clerestory windows above. Access to outdoor living areas truly brings the outside in. The pre-finished, wide-plank oak wood flooring is pale in colour to bounce even more light, and distressed to ensure durability. Throughout the house, a combination of natural wood, light surfaces and black accents combine to create sense of serenity and harmony.

The flow continues in the master ensuite and guest baths with alabaster shades on the floors and walls, and black accents in the architectural glass doors, light and plumbing fixtures. Floating vanities emphasize the sense of space.

Attention to detail, and a curated approach to materials, has yielded an inviting, easy to care for and very grown-up tree house in the woods.

The reading nook, found off the entry, offers an element of surprise with its view of the living wall outside. Careful attention to plant selection, along with an irrigation system, ensures that the garden feature will look equally beautiful in summer and winter.

Nestled between trees and rocks on a 3 acre country estate, this home evokes the impression of being in a secluded treehouse. It’s clean, crisp lines prevent it from feeling like the rustic hideaway of childhood, but rather a contemporary haven to observe the natural world in.

The deep grey corregated metal siding, complemented by clear cedar cladding and fir posts and beamwork, combine to form an appealing exterior. The fireplaces are clad outside and in with concrete-look porcelain tiles, while the windows, garage door, soffits, and downspouts provide an architectural accent in black. The rainchains add a whimsical feel, and the natural wood stained band below the soffit and over the garage door offer a warm contrast. The materials chosen for the exterior finishes are low-maintenance, as is the natural approach to the landscaping which incorporates mostly native woodland species.
