The clients were interested in working with the existing topography of the land that resulted in the entry and main living areas being located on the upper level.

Views to the surrounding hillside are captured through large expanses of glazing and floor to ceiling windows in the double-height Family Room. The sites’ excellent Southern exposure was exploited through the implementation of a continuous band of windows providing passive-heating in Winter. Deep overhanging eaves provide full shade throughout the summertime.

Future connections for Solar Hot Water, and a Photovoltaic system have been provided on the roof.

The house is cooled through three separate, yet complimentary systems: passive cooling through operable windows, active ventilation via attic fan, and a central HVAC high efficiency system.

This house incorporates a rainwater collection system that provides 100% of the water needs for the family.
