This is the home of one of the owners/estate managers of Jones Wine in Napa. A partial remodel always raises some challenges as you must blend the new remodel in with what stays to get a seamless design that doesn't look like it was "remodeled" but feels contemporary and in keeping with the original style of the home - a fairly general problem in San Francisco.
The biggest challenge was improving storage and performance in a completely non-functional kitchen. The client had a beautiful collection of items handed down from her family, which made the need for storage important. Her husband is an avid cook so we wanted to create a kitchen that was functional. The Clients were slightly more traditional in not wanting to see the kitchen from the formal dining room, so Marsh & Clark connected the kitchen to the breakfast nook to give it a more contemporary feel while preserving the traditional feel of having a formal dining room.
