This unique 380 square-foot project is located near Lake Harriet and the historic streetcar line. A recent change to Minneapolis zoning code paved the way for building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in this location. In addition to other benefits, ADU’s allow for independent multi-generational housing within close proximity to a primary residence.
The client wanted a separate accommodation for visiting family, friends, and intermittent Airbnb renters. The strategic use of glass, partitions, and vaulted ceilings creates an open and airy interior. Vertical siding and awning windows create a fresh, yet “nested” exterior. Additionally, compact and concealed kitchen appliances exemplify how an essentials-only project can still be modern, comfortable, and stylish.
